Cultural Weaving Kain Rangrang

The woven cloth of Nusa Penida’s eastern villages

Culture · On-site

Sit with a local weaver and learn how kain rangrang takes shape on a traditional wooden loom, one thread at a time.

Kain rangrang is the hand-woven cloth of Nusa Penida, known for its bold colours and sharp geometric patterns. Each piece is made on a traditional wooden loom, with the design built up thread by thread from memory rather than from a drawing.

Our weaver walks you through choosing colours, setting the threads and working a few rows of pattern yourself. The session is unhurried and open to all ages, and you leave knowing how much patience goes into a single length of cloth.
